Tire Pressure Check
Only you can prevent flat tires
This is your monthly reminder to check the air pressure in your bike tires once a week or before every ride. If you have a flat tire in the Phoenix AZ area contact GearsToYou.com mobile bicycle repair to come fix it for you.
How does the air escape?
The butyl rubber used to make inner tubes has small pours (tiny holes) which oxygen molecules are small enough to escape from.
How much pressure does my tire need?
Check the markings on the sidewall of your bike tires. You should find a min. and max. pressure (40-65psi) molded into the side of the tire.
Can I do the “Squeeze Check”?
When you squeeze a bike tire with your hand it will feel firm with as little as 20psi in it. The only way to check is with a tire pressure gauge or a pump with a built in gauge.
What happens if I ride with low pressure?
With 20psi or less in your tire you can cause a pinch flat, sometimes called a “Snake Bite”. The tube gets pinched between the rim and the road as you ride and causes two slices in the tube, like a snake bit the tube.
How can I avoid these issues so I can have fun riding my bike?
Checking and inflating your tires before each ride will solve these problems. Keep that pump handy and use it often!
Have fun riding your bike!
